These are some of our favorite recipes, each reflecting our experience that the very best meals are built upon great ingredients, simply prepared.

Colleen was a professional chef who trained and cooked at some of the best restaurants in Berlin and San Francisco before opening her own, Samba Java, in Healdsburg. Samba Java was the place to be during its four-year run, receiving both critical and popular acclaim. It was also the place where Bay Area chefs came to hang out on their days off.

She has a sixth sense about ingredients, and her recipes reflect her commitment to simplicity. Here are a few recipes from her and some of our chef friends you might want to try. Don't be daunted: all of these are straightforward and easy!
